Art Rage Painting – “Sinew”

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

I haven’t used the cheap but well-reviewed painting software Art Rage very much other than a couple experiments that proved my art school painting classes were not well absorbed. It was a fun little experience painting this and getting used to the brush strokes and paint mixing effects. This took a good, solid 2.5 hours today.

Illustration Friday (Monday) – “Wrapped”

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Ha ha, gross. But appropriate. “Wrapped” sort of reminded me of the “gifts” our yard cat used to leave us…

This was another illustration for Illustration Friday that took about 1 hour 10 minutes. Click here to check out all the submissions for “Wrapped”. Great stuff.

10 minute drawing in Adobe Illustrator…

The truly nifty part is it was done with such a quickness, about the same as sketching in my trusty ‘ol sketchbook. This was also the very first drawing in Illustrator with the new (old) LE1600!

My good old friend Justin and I have started a project recently, and I’ve posted the first Chapter.

I’m doing all the illustrations in Adobe Illustrator, trying to maintain this colorful sketchy style I’ve got going.

Illustrator Gradient Test – Surprised Guy

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Just a quick test I did using the gradient mesh in Adobe Illustrator. It’s not easy, but I think I could get used to it.

Foggy – Illustration Friday

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I finally did an illustration for IF.com. The theme was “foggy”.

This took about 2 1/2 hours total to create using Adobe Illustrator and my good old trusty mouse. I spent some serious time “undoing” in the beginning. Not working from sketches is equal parts frustrating and awesome. Click the image above to see the larger version.

Check out IF.com to see some really great artists’ work.

A Simple Tortoise

Monday, August 17th, 2009

I figured hey, I haven’t illustrated anything in many months, why not make a tortoise?

Having difficulty using my tablet, not as smooth with the lines, so I used the mouse instead. I may just like using the mouse more. And man, was it fast. Took about 20 minutes to complete.
